This means that the bench would decide whether the matter would be heard further and parties allowed to share their side of the story.

CBSE Exams: Development so far

In the interim, the Ministry of Education on May 23 conducted a high level meeting of all state education ministers. CBSE in the meeting proposed two options for consideration to the states for conducting Class 12 board exams.

Among the two options is a suggestion to conduct the class 12 board exams in truncated manner for only the major subjects. The paper, the board suggested, would be of 90 minutes and in objective type or short answer question format. The exams, CBSE suggested, would be conducted at the students’ home schools and in two phases.

Students who are unable to appear in the first phase due to COVID, would be allowed to appear for the examination in second phase. The proposed dates for the two phases is July 16 to July 31 and August 8 to August 26. The final decision, however is still pending and expected to be announced by June 1, 2021.

What to expect today

There are two possible outcomes today.

  • The Supreme Court of India may admit the case, which may prompt the Education Ministry to defer its announcement and leave the decision with the apex court.
  • Alternatively, with no decision announced as yet, the court may dismiss the plea till the stand of the government is clear.

Either ways, there would be no decision on CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2021 today. The students are hence advised to be patient and keep studying.
